When you're barely of legal age to get a driver's license, and you're

When you're barely of legal age to get a driver's license, and you're taking your first driving lesson, the world's your oyster. You're thinking as soon as you get that square little plastic with your name on it, you'll get a vehicle, no matter how and start going places, driving around with friends and taking lovely girls home. You also feel any vehicle will do; whether it's a scooter, a sedan, a van, a motorcycle or a compact, they will accomplish the task of helping you be free. You're probably realistic, too, and settle for something small at first, probably the scooter or the compact.
Later on, and depending on how you make a living. you might consider a vehicle that will be useful; if you just have to drive yourself around, a scooter will fit your pocket best; and if you have to take things from A to B, a van will probably be your best option.
I'm almost 50 andI wasno exception; I started out with the same feelings, same experiences: I started drivingsolely for pleasure, then considered using my skills to make money.Perhaps the only difference was that youngsters eventually grow accustomed to driving and stop paying much attention to it, whereas I made it my livelihood. Driving has always been a passion of mine, so I can't really say I'm working when I drive, even though it is what earns me my daily bread. I'm a professional lorry driver now, but I've driven every type of bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, car, vanand lorry you could imagine. I've even driven tractors, fire trucks, ambulances and a classic car!
It's probably because I'm such an enthusiast that I bought, a few years ago, a run-down classic car, my first Bentley. I must have spent a month working on it every afternoon for 5 or 6 hours. When I was done with it, my neighbours baptised me Ralph "classic car" O'Brien. It really looked fantastic. That was twelve years ago. Today I own 3 classic cars, all brought back to life in my workshop. Driving them, I still get the feeling of the young lad that wants to be free.
