As an hgv driver I would drive all around the country for days at a time before having a couple of days off. I longed to drive a classic car but needed to earn more money to be able to afford one. My income as an hgv driver was enough to pay the bills but not to fulfill my dream of owning a classic car.

I noticed an advert in the local paper one day for driving schools leeds, it was advertising for help with the theory test. Surely I had the qualifications to do this as I was an hgv driver, it was all I did all day long, looking at road signs and finding my way around. This was of course before sat navs become popular.

I applied for the job but as part of the interview process I had to sit my theory test to show I was capable of teaching others. I had to pass with 100% to move on to the next stage of the application process. I was so nervous it was unreal. Something I do every day as part of my job seemed so difficult as I sat in the booth to start the test. I needed to calm down and remembered the reason I was doing this, my classic car, keep calm and just think about what you are doing.

I completed the theory test and waited for my results with anticipation, only to find out I had scored 98%. Can you believe it! I had to resit the test but before I did I studied the book and did alot of revision. It seemed years since I had done any studying and you do not realise how oblivious to road signsyou become when you have passed your driving test.

I resat the test two weeks later, and passed, moved forward in the application process and got the job as a theory test advisor. I did this job as well as working nights in my original job to enable me to save up for my dream car.

It took six months of long hours and hard work but I did it, I got my classic car and have kept both jobs as I find it rewarding watching people pass there test. I am going part time as a driver now so I can fulfill my dream of driving my classic car.
